Discover Dog Friendly Aviemore
Aviemore is a must for those who enjoy stunning scenery and plentiful activities no matter what the time of year. Nestled within the Cairngorms National Park, the village has a mega pedigree having produced more Olympic athletes per head of population than anywhere else in Britain; it even has its gold post box in recognition of David Smith’s Gold Medal he won in the Mixed Coxed Fours Rowing during the London 2012 Olympics.
Nearby, is the CairnGorm Mountain, the best known of the ski and snowboard areas in the National Park with the Terrain Park’s ‘kickers and rails’ attracting some of Britain’s best snowboarders and skiers to the area.
Aviemore is a great base for families with its myriad of award winning attractions all within a 20-minute drive of the village. You can ride the funicular at the CairnGorm Mountain resort, while taking in panoramic views of the Cairngorms mountain range, feed the animals at the Reindeer Centre and sample the Cairngorm Brewery ales.
Craggan Outdoors outdoor activity centre has a variety of group activities for all ages and abilities including canyoning; rock climbing; mountain biking; zip wire and coasteering. Alternatively, you could burn off some energy in the Landmark Forest Adventure Park, or the Hilton Coylumbridge Funhouse where you can challenge your opponent in its castle-themed 18-hole Adventure Golf Course.
There are also more sedate activities on offer. Sit back and relax on safari – guided and driven by an experienced Ranger – and discover what makes Rothiemurchus so special; take a trip back in time on the Strathspey Steam Railway, or simply experience times gone by in the Highland Folk Museum.
