Brixham wraps around one of England's busiest working fishing harbours, its quaysides stacked with boats and the daily catch still landed here at dawn. At the heart of the harbour rides the full-sized replica of the Golden Hind, a Brixham fixture for over fifty years, while the colourful houses climb the hillsides above the water. Just to the south, Berry Head National Nature Reserve stands high on its limestone cliffs, a breezy headland with a lighthouse and some of the finest views on the English Riviera. This is excellent dog country. The South West Coast Path threads through woods and along the cliffs to a string of beaches, and dogs are welcome across Berry Head and its Guardhouse Cafe on a lead. Many beaches operate seasonal dog restrictions through the summer, with dog-friendly stretches nearby and year-round access on others. Keep dogs under close control near nesting seabirds on the headland. With a good range of holiday homes, Brixham is a lively, salty coastal base.
